Jerri Hurley
CHILDREN’S EDUCATION COORDINATOR
Jerri knows what it feels like to be a seeker and remembers how life-changing her family’s contact with church was when she was a pre-teen. She grew up in Wisconsin and, after finishing college at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1987, moved to Salt Lake City for her first job as an Occupational Therapist. She expected to stay for a year, but that year turned into more than thirty. She met and married her husband David in Salt Lake City, and together they have four children, and one grandchild. A highlight of their married life was the year they spent with their oldest son in Guatemala as medical missionaries.
Jerri has worked with the church primarily as a teacher for the children. She also helps to recruit teachers and finds curriculum and supplies for the various bible classes. She also enjoys helping out at the church’s food pantry each week and lending a hand wherever she can. She hopes that the Murray Park Church of Christ will be instrumental in leading more kids and their families to Christ, and to help seekers learn about God’s love.
Mike Wiist-Minister
Michael Wiist, of Evansville, IN, is the youngest of three sons, all three of whom have been, or currently are, full-time ministers. He spent his teen years actively involved in the Newburgh Church of Christ church plant and youth group, in Newburgh, IN. After High School he joined the Adventures In Missions program in Lubbock, TX.
Completing his 8 months of mission training, Mike spent 15 months working alongside missionary, Tony Coffey, in Dublin, Ireland. Mike returned to Lubbock to attend the Sunset International Bible Institute from 1998-2000, while also working as an Assistant for the AIM program. It was during this time that he met his wife, Timbra (AIM '99 and Suva, Fiji).
In 2001 Mike spent a summer as the youth intern for the Placerville Church of Christ (Placerville, CA), where he was later offered a full-time youth ministry position. In 2002, Mike and Timbra married. The couple moved back to Fiji to pursue full-time foreign ministry in April 2006, welcomed their first daughter 5 weeks later, and in an unforeseen turn of events, returned to the US in December of that same year, where they began attending at the Murray Park Church of Christ in Murray, UT (a sponsoring church while in Fiji). Mike began part time youth ministry work with the Murray Church in late 2007, became a coordinator for AIM teams in Spring 2009, welcomed his second daughter that summer, and came on as the full-time family-life and pulpit minister in January 2010, where he has continued to present.
During his time in Murray, UT Mike has been coordinator to 6 separate AIM teams, is the day manager for the Murray Park Food Bank Food Pantry (on-site) and has recently begun a podcast with volunteer minister, Jacob Norwood.
Jacob Norwood-Podcast
Jacob Norwood was raised in Arlington, Texas. He spend the first eighteen years of his life there before joining the Adventures in Missions program in Lubbock, Texas to become an apprentice missionary in 2009. This program is what lead him to the Murray Park church, when he was assigned to work under minister Mike Wiist in the Salt Lake City area. He spent fifteen months in SLC, serving Murray Park’s youth and young adults ministries, as well as working in education and volunteer positions in the community.
In 2011, Jacob left Utah to attend Harding University. In 2015, he graduated with a degree in Electronic Media Production, with a double major in Leadership & Ministry. While at Harding, Jacob served in various ministry positions, both on campus, and as a youth intern with his home congregation in Texas for three summers. During his time at school, he decided that after graduating he would return to Salt Lake City, and involve himself in the ministries of the Murray Park church once again. After living in Texas for a year after college, Jacob moved back to Salt Lake City in late 2016, and has been involved with Murray Park ever since. He currently volunteers with the youth and young adult ministries, and co-hosts the Murray Parkcast podcast with Mike Wiist.
We have a Minister on staff who preaches most Sundays. Mike is great at helping us look at the teachings in the Bible, the example of Jesus, the loving nature of God, and presenting new takes on things that we often take for granted. We record our sermons and put them on our podcast, The Murray Parkcast, at the beginning of each week. Our podcast returns mid-week, often with a discussion about that week's sermon, though sometimes with special topics or guests.
